Sennebogen 653e - Hybrid Powertrain Integration for Zero-Emission and Flexible Heavy Equipment Operation
Sennebogen 653 Hybrid Drivetrain for Van den Heuvel Werkendam
Hybrid Powertrain Integration for Zero-Emission and Flexible Heavy Equipment Operation
SDK Engineering designed, supplied and integrated a complete hybrid drivetrain for a Sennebogen 653 operated by Van den Heuvel Werkendam. Developed in close collaboration with our project partner, this solution combines the benefits of zero-emission electric operation with the flexibility required for demanding heavy equipment applications.
By integrating an advanced electric drivetrain with a built-in range extender, the machine can operate fully electrically whenever charging infrastructure is available while maintaining maximum operational availability in remote locations where grid power is limited or unavailable.
The Challenge
Heavy equipment used in construction, infrastructure and material handling often operates in environments where access to electrical charging infrastructure cannot be guaranteed. The challenge was to develop a hybrid powertrain that enables zero-emission operation while ensuring the machine remains productive under all working conditions.
The solution required seamless integration of the electric drivetrain, high-voltage system, energy management and machine control systems without compromising performance, reliability or operator safety.
Our Solution
SDK Engineering was responsible for the complete engineering and integration of the hybrid drivetrain, combining electric propulsion, intelligent energy management and advanced high-voltage technology into one fully integrated system.
The hybrid configuration enables the Sennebogen 653 to operate entirely on electric power during normal operation. When additional operating time is required, the integrated range extender provides continuous power, ensuring uninterrupted productivity without dependence on charging infrastructure.
Through advanced system integration, the electric drivetrain, battery system, power electronics and machine controls operate as a single, reliable solution designed for demanding heavy-duty applications.
Scope of Work
SDK Engineering delivered the complete hybrid drivetrain solution, including:
Results
The Sennebogen 653 now benefits from a modern hybrid powertrain that combines the environmental advantages of electric operation with the flexibility required for continuous heavy-duty use. The integrated range extender significantly increases operational availability, allowing the machine to work efficiently in locations where charging infrastructure is unavailable.
This project demonstrates SDK Engineering's expertise in heavy equipment electrification, hybrid powertrain development, high-voltage integration, energy management and complete machine system integration, delivering reliable and future-ready solutions for the construction, infrastructure and material handling industries.
