Hakkers B.V. electrifies the SB650 with an e-Drive!

E-Drive for Hakkers Sennebogen 650: Fully Electric Pile Driver Transformation

Hakkers is working on transforming the Sennebogen 650, a powerful 50-ton pile driver, into a fully electric machine. This crane, also known as "The Beauty," is now equipped with an E-drive – an electric drivetrain. With this electrification, we are taking an important step towards sustainability and an emission-free future in the construction sector.

Electric Drivetrain: The Power of the E-drive

The E-drive is a fully electric drivetrain that replaces the diesel engine of the Sennebogen 650. This solution includes a powerful electric motor and a battery pack with a capacity of 267.7 kWh. The electric motor delivers 220 kW nominal power and 400 kW peak power, making this fully electric pile driver suitable for heavy tasks, such as installing sheet piles along canals.

The switch to electric drive significantly reduces CO₂ emissions and enables quieter and more efficient operation. As a result, "The Beauty" not only contributes to a cleaner construction site but also to lower operational costs and less maintenance compared to traditional diesel-powered machines.

The Electrification Process: Step-by-Step Conversion

The conversion of the Sennebogen 650 into a fully electric crane took place in several phases, carried out in collaboration with our specialized installation partner, Van den Heuvel:

  1. Removal of the diesel engine
We started by removing the current diesel engine and preparing the crane for the electric components.

  2. Installation of the E-drive and battery pack
SDK supplied the E-drive, the battery pack, and all necessary components. Van den Heuvel handled the mechanical installation. Afterwards, we took care of connecting the machine with all software and electronics, ensuring the electric motor and battery pack were seamlessly integrated with the existing crane structure.

  3. Software integration and testing
Next, the control software was installed and the fully electric pile driver was tested. This is a crucial moment to ensure the crane performs optimally and is ready to carry out its heavy tasks.

  4. Inspection
Finally, inspections were carried out to check whether everything met the required standards and whether the machine could safely be put into operation. The Beauty passed this test and is ready for a sustainable future in the field!

Benefits of the Electric Sennebogen 650

The fully electric conversion of the Sennebogen 650 offers numerous benefits:

  • Emission-free operation: The crane operates without CO₂ emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment.
  • Lower operational costs: Electric machines are more efficient and cheaper to maintain than their diesel counterparts.
  • Noise reduction: The electric motor operates significantly quieter, improving the working environment on construction sites.
  • Future-proof: Electrification makes the crane suitable for increasingly strict environmental regulations in construction.

Collaboration with Van den Heuvel: Trusted Expertise

For this complex conversion, we once again relied on the expertise of our partner Van den Heuvel, who has extensive experience in the installation and conversion of heavy industrial machines.  Through this collaboration, we can guarantee a reliable and efficient transition to fully electric operation.

Sustainability in the Construction Sector: A Step Towards the Future

The electrification of "The Beauty" fits within our broader mission to make the construction sector more sustainable. With this project, we make an important contribution to reducing emissions and achieving emission-free construction sites. This fully electric pile driver demonstrates that powerful performance and sustainability can go hand in hand.
